Our Adoption Process

The purpose of an application is to find suitable fosters and homes for our rescue animals. In order to do so, we need information about your background, family dynamics, and plans to care for the intended pet.

Submitting an application does NOT obligate you to foster or adopt nor does it secure an animal in your name. Age 25 is our minimum age limit for adopters.

Part of the adoptions process will include an informal home visit in person or via live video chat to ensure a safe environment for your new family member. We are happy to help you to improve safety issues and answer any of your questions.

Once your application is submitted you will be  assigned a team member with the goal of helping you find the perfect pet.

Every step through the adoption process should take less than a week from start to finish. Let’s make your adoption a great experience.

The adoption donation depends on the type and age of the animal. Please see the fee schedule below: ALL OF OUR DOGS/PUPPIES COME FULLY VETTED AND MICROCHIPPED

Adoption FAQ

  • Adoption fee is 300.00 While some  rescues only require standard health and wellness care. Our dogs are fully vetted, fully vaccinated and microchipped. We rely solely on donations, adoption fees, and fundraisers to enable us to continue rescuing homeless pets.

  • We do an in-person home visit whenever possible or a Facetime/Video Chat home visit.

  • Our mission is supported through generous donations from individuals, businesses (large and small), foundations, event proceeds, merchandise sales, adoption fees. As a registered 501 (c) (3), donations to Oklahoma Ruff Refuge are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

  • Bixby, Oklahoma

  • We pull from rural high kill shelters with proper transfer documentation. Owner Surrenders are considered on a case-by-case basis. If you have an animal you would like like to surrender, please see our Owner Surrender page.

  • New and gently used items can be marked ‘For Ruff Refuge” donated and dropped off at the address below.

    We also encourage you to please consider corporate/business gifts, matching gifts, memorial donations, gifts of supplies (please review our Amazon Wish List), and planned gifts. As a registered 501 (c) (3), all donations to Oklahoma Ruff Refuge are tax-deductible.

  • When an application is approved for a particular dog of interest, it is possible that there are other applications for the same dog. If this is the case we will keep you informed and updated on the status of your application. We do not adopt dogs out solely because you are 1st applicant. Our dogs will be adopted by the person, family they connect with and what home life will be best for the dog and the adopter. 

  • We have Meet and Greets and adoption events where you are able to meet adoptable pets. Once your application is reviewed we will call, email and arrange a meet and greet.

  • We try to complete the review of all applications within 48 hours. Once you submit your application, you can expect to hear from a volunteer adoption counselor to let you know that it is being reviewed and to schedule a “Meet and Greet” If you haven’t heard back about your application after 48 hrs, please email: mia@okruff.com
